Laptop or PC?
I had an interesting conversation about Laptops vs PCs yesterday. Personally, I’ve been using a Toshiba Satellite, which is one of the new PC-equivalents, for nearly five years now. I would never go back to using a PC; I’m still having a love affair with my laptop.
The conversation began when I was visiting my daughter, fumbling to fit the DSL cable into the back of my laptop. I rarely do that because I have Wi-Fi at home. I was trying to squeeze it into the wrong jack, and when I located the right one, I was wondering what the other one was for (slightly smaller). Someone suggested it was a slot for the keyboad. It wasn’t, but it made me think about all the people who can’t get along with a laptop keyboard. I suppose being a woman, I don’t have a problem with my hands being too big. I can imagine that some men might find things a bit cramped. I love the angle of typing on a laptop keyboard too. I never sit at a desk any more. I admit I get neck-ache if I’m forced to sit with the laptop balanced on my knees, but mainly I favor the recliner.
But since I started using a laptop, i’ve never suffered repetitive strain injury pain, which I had experienced for years with the PC.
I try not to take the laptop to the bedroom with me, as even I have to call a halt to work sometime. But i really appreciate not being tied down to one spot in the house, as I was with my PC.
There is another advantage too. Laptops come prepackaged and sealed from the manufacturer, so you know exactly what you’re getting inside. It is possible for an agent to tamper with whatever’s inside a PC. I know, because I’ve experienced this: I was sold something, and then later found that what was inside the PC bore no relation to what I paid for. I’ve had no trouble with my laptops (two so far). My son has a Toshiba too. It has served him well, although now his screen is cracked because he stepped on it (don’t ask). But, believe it or not, it still works. He has an ark of fuzzy blackness, though, where his foot was. That is pretty impressive technology if you ask me.
My daughter has an IBM laptop. Now that has survived some pretty hairy scenarios, and it’s still going strong. Admittedly, the CD player was ripped off when her five-year-old son accidently launched it down the stairs, but by golly it still works. I’ve seen those kids jump on it, spill juice on it, and God knows what else. I think it should be awarded the same designation as those models that are designed for military use, frankly.
Now, imagine launching your PC down the stairs, screen and all, and then trying to boot up. Nope, laptops are it for me.

Not to be nitpicky, but are you talking about laptop vs. desktop, or is it PC vs. Mac? Or a PC desktop vs. a Mac laptop? Or something else? I’m confused.
Hunny, if I’d wanted to mention Macs i would have. Don’t use them myself.
